On January 23, 2025, Walailak University’s Division of Corporate Communication organized the “President Meets the Press in Nakhon Si Thammarat” event to share the university’s achievements over the past years and express gratitude to the media for their continuous support in disseminating news and information. The event was honored by the presence of Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, along with university executives and 22 media representatives from television and radio stations, online platforms, Facebook pages, and various local media outlets. The gathering took place at the Bota Orchids House, Walailak Botanic Park.
During the event, Professor Dr. Sombat highlighted Walailak University’s outstanding global achievements over the past years. The university was ranked 1201-1500 globally and 6th in Thailand in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025. In the THE Young University Rankings 2024, Walailak University was placed 501-600 globally.
Regarding sustainable development, the university was ranked 101-200 globally according to the THE Impact Rankings. Additionally, it was ranked 3rd worldwide for Stewardship and 4th worldwide for Outreach in the THE Impact Rankings 2024 report.
Furthermore, the university also maintained its status as the leading green university in Southern Thailand for the fifth consecutive year, since 2020, according to UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, reinforcing its international recognition for quality and sustainability.
The event also addressed Walailak University’s strong student admission performance. For the TCAS1/2025 (Portfolio Round), more than 39,050 students nationwide applied for programs at Walailak University, significantly exceeding the university’s planned enrollment of 3,418 students for the year.
Professor Dr. Sombat noted, “Over the past eight years, Walailak University has consistently increased both the quantity and quality of its student intake. In 2016, the average entrance GPAX was 2.95, while in 2024, it rose to 3.42. Moreover, the university consistently exceeds its enrollment targets, with applications reaching 60,200 in 2024.”
Looking ahead, Walailak University is exploring the feasibility of establishing a demonstration school on campus as well as a new auditorium. These initiatives reflect Walailak University’s commitment to investing in educational quality and student well-being, ensuring a fulfilling campus experience for all.
