On January 8, 2022, Walailak University Council (Confidential agenda) No. 1/2022 invited two qualified candidates to be appointed President namely, Assoc. Prof. Jirapon Sunkpho, Ph.D. and Prof. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Ph.D., to present visions or guidelines on administrating the university to the council.
In the meeting, The Walailak University Council passed a resolution approving the reappointment of Prof. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Ph.D. as President of Walailak University for another term. Royal approval for the appointment is to be bestowed.
Prof. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Ph.D. has assumed the position in his first term on July 1, 2016. Prior to this position, he had served two terms as president of National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) and as President of University council in five universities. Besides, Prof. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Ph.D. is well recognized both on a national and international scale for his expertise as a lecturer in the field of political science.
