Staff from the Division of Corporate Communication (DCC), together with members of the media, joined Walailak University’s official declaration to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, covering the event on 28 November 2025.
The ceremony, held at the Bussarakam Conference Room of the Walailak University Natural History Museum, was presided over by President Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, who outlined the university’s commitment to balancing carbon dioxide emissions with carbon dioxide absorption until the university’s net emissions reach zero.
The declaration is grounded in the university’s Green University Framework, which focuses on expanding green spaces, increasing the use of renewable energy, improving waste and wastewater management, promoting sustainable mobility, and strengthening environmental literacy across campus. These initiatives align with national sustainability directions and support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action).
DCC staff were on site to capture key moments, coordinate media coverage, and prepare communication materials for public dissemination. Their participation helps ensure that the university community and external stakeholders clearly understand Walailak University’s sustainability direction and carbon-neutrality roadmap.
Walailak University will soon advance several major initiatives, including expanding solar energy systems and developing a 6-megawatt floating solar project. The university also encourages all students and staff to take part in everyday sustainable practices to support this institutional goal.
