The Division of Corporate Communications (DCC) at Walailak University organized a workshop to enhance news-writing skills among its staff on June 16, 2026, in the 19-Seat Meeting Room of the Cooperative Education Building.
The workshop featured Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice President, as the guest speaker. Drawing on his extensive experience in writing and reviewing university communications, Dr. Surin provided practical guidance on crafting stronger news stories that are clear, engaging, and informative.
As part of the workshop, staff members submitted previously published news articles for review and discussion. Dr. Surin offered detailed feedback on various aspects of news writing, including story structure, lead development, content organization, and the effective use of background information to provide context and enhance readers’ understanding.
One of the key highlights of the session was Dr. Surin’s emphasis on incorporating relevant institutional context into news stories. He encouraged participants to look beyond event reporting and consider how university achievements, strategic initiatives, rankings, partnerships, and academic strengths can be integrated into stories to demonstrate broader significance and impact.
The interactive workshop also provided participants with opportunities to discuss common challenges in news writing and explore techniques for making stories more compelling while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
