Division of Corporate Communications joins university-wide innovation showcase; committee recommends expanding the platform to mark parking and key locations for commencement and other major campus events.
The Division of Corporate Communications (DCC) took part in WU Innovation Day 2026, presenting WU GO Smart Map — its interactive campus navigation platform — to the review committee on August 27, the final day of the three-day event.
The presentation went well and was warmly received, with the committee offering guidance for the platform’s next phase of development. Among the recommendations were adding pins for the university’s important occasions, such as marking parking areas during the annual commencement ceremony, or adding temporary points of interest whenever the university hosts other major events.
The idea builds on groundwork DCC has already laid. The team previously added event markers to WU GO Smart Map for the Walailak Agricultural Fair 2026, helping visitors locate the fair on campus.
WU Innovation Day, now in its fourth year, brought together 46 units from across Walailak University under the theme “SDGs Plus,” giving staff a platform to showcase innovations and process improvements aimed at cutting steps, saving time, and reducing costs. The event ran from August 25–27, 2026, and was opened by University President Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong.
WU GO Smart Map, launched by DCC, replaced the university’s static campus map with a searchable, bilingual digital platform. Unlike a conventional map that only marks building locations, it lets users search directly by meeting room or division name and get step-by-step directions — a distinction that matters on a campus as large as Walailak University’s. Built on OpenStreetMap data, the platform currently supports car and bicycle navigation and is accessible at dcc.wu.ac.th/map from any browser, with no app to install.
The platform has already built a strong following, logging more than 28,000 uses since launch with an average user rating of 4.4 out of 5. With the committee’s recommendations in hand, the developer says work will continue — with the next phase focused on extending WU GO Smart Map beyond everyday campus navigation to cover event-specific needs, helping graduates, families, and guests find parking and get around campus during commencement and other major occasions.
